Overcoming Doubt: Stop Waiting to Believe in Yourself
Doubt is one of the biggest reasons people never tick things off their bucket list.
Not because they don’t have dreams.
Not because they don’t have ability.
But because somewhere between “I want to do this” and “I’m going to do this,” doubt shows up.
What if I fail…
What if I’m not good enough….
What will people think…
What if it doesn’t work out…
Here’s the uncomfortable truth:
you may never completely get rid of doubt.
And that’s okay.
You don’t need to eliminate doubt before you take action.
You need to learn how to move with it.
Think about every major thing you’ve achieved in your life.
Chances are, you didn’t feel 100% confident before starting.
Confidence usually comes after action, not before it.
You take the first step. You survive it. You learn something.
You take another step.
And slowly, your brain starts saying,
Maybe I actually can do this….
That’s how confidence is built.
Stop believing every thought
Just because your mind tells you something doesn’t make it true.
“I’m not ready” might actually mean you’re scared.
“I’m not good enough” might simply mean you’re inexperienced.
“Maybe I’ll do it someday…….. might really mean you’re afraid to start.
Question the story you’re telling yourself.
Ask: Is this actually true, or is this just fear trying to keep me comfortable?
Make the goal smaller
Big goals can create big doubt…….So shrink the first step.
Want to run a marathon…. Start with a kilometre.
Want to travel solo….. Book the first trip.
Want to write a book…..Write one page.
Want to change your life…. Change what you do today.
You don’t have to figure out the entire journey.
You just need to know your next move.
Collect evidence
Every time you do something you were afraid to do, you’re collecting evidence that you’re capable.
Keep track of those wins.
The workout you didn’t want to do.
The conversation you were nervous about.
The adventure you almost cancelled.
The time you failed and got back up.
Those moments become proof.
So the next time doubt tells you “You can’t, you’ve got evidence to answer back:
“Maybe. But I’ve done hard things before.
Your goals aren’tt a list of things you’ll do when you’re confident.
It’s a list of things that can make you confident.
Stop waiting to believe in yourself.
Take the step………Then take another.
